What does a 504 Gateway Timeout error mean?

A 504 Gateway Timeout indicates that your request is in transit. Consider it as a single server (a gateway) that is waiting too long to get a response back. Having waited longer than a predetermined time, it then abandons and sends a Http Error 504 to your browser, terminating the page loading.
